Acrobat Reader
With the Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can read any document created with Adobe's Acrobat Exchange, which can convert text files from any platform (e.g., DOS, Windows, Macintosh, Unix) into its own PDF format and can conduct cross-platform searches. The Acrobat Reader is a free viewing application for the Adobe Acrobat program and offers many viewing features and options. Note that the Reader permits you to view PDF files only. This version is a maintenance update that adds a PDF Writer driver, an Acrobat Capture plug-in, MS Office macros to support Office 95 and 97, and more. WinZip
WinZip has become the file compression tool of choice for many Windows users, and it's easy to see why. Using your
choice of a 'Wizard' or 'Classic' interface (both of which are easy to use), WinZip can create industry-standard .zip files, plus open .zip, .tar, and GZIP archives without any additional utilities. It also interfaces with external programs to handle .arc, .arj, and .lzh files. WinZip features tight integration with the Windows 95 shell, several ways to create archives, plus optional support for many virus scanners. A helpful Check Out feature temporarily opens an archive so that the program within can be installed. You can keep a list of favorite folders, plus easily view files through an internal ASCII text viewer or the file's associated application. The bonused WinZip Self-Extractor Personal Edition lets you make executable files from .zip archives for distribution to friends or clients. Several new features and enhancements have been incorporated in this major update. There's an updated zip/unzip engine with automatic built-in disk spanning support for multidisk Zip files. A free add-on lets you download and open archives from the Internet with one click via Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. All files that have been downloaded are automatically copied from the Internet browser's cache directory to a folder of your choice, which ensures that a permanent copy of the download is saved on your system, even if the downloaded file is automatically deleted by the browser. This new version also features more Explorer context menu enhancements including a most-welcome Extract to folder which creates a folder for the archive's contents in the same directory that holds the archive.
