Who are the Legion of
Frontiersmen of The Commonwealth (U.K)? We are a VOLUNTEER, uniformed
organisation, founded in 1904 - originally to
provide scouts (reconaissance) for the British
Army wherever in the Empire they were called upon
to serve. Each member was expected to serve
wherever and whenever he was asked to do so -
without pay - and to provide his own horse and
uniform. Today the Empire has gone and satellites
now do the work of monitoring the frontiers - so
the modern Legion has adapted its roll to one of
assistance within the community and our
charitable status helps us to persue our
objectives.
Members are trained to deal
with all types of emergency situation as they
arise, until the arrival of the emergency
services and then to assist as required. The core
subjects members are trained in are :- First Aid,
Basic Fire Fighting and the correct use of fire
extinguishers, Traffic and Crowd Control,
Communications, Navigation and Search and Rescue.
Members are also trained in Drill - to enable
them to support ex-servicemans organisations by
providing Colour Party's, Guards of Honour ,
Parade Marshalls and to participate in parades
honouring the dead of the British Forces and
other Nations
U.K. Command is organised into
Squadrons and Troops, with members serving
throughout the U.K. The rank structure is based
on that of the British Army and all promotion is
on merit.
It's not all work though,
members are encouraged to take part in the social
side as well, with social events taking place
nationally and locally each year.
