The Legion Bit My name is Trevor Goldsmith and I am a Captain on the U.K. Command Staff with responsibility for all matters regarding IT within the command. I have been a member since 1990, enlisting in January of that year as a Frontiersman. I was promoted to Corporal in March the same year. I served with Wellingborough Troop as Troop Admin & Training NCO and in January 1991 I was appointed to the U.K.Command Executive Council as Miniutes Secretary, a position I held for 2 years. In February 1994 I was promoted to Sergeant upon the appointment of a new Troop Commander, Captain Eric Cameron. Unfortunately Captian Cameron became ill and had to retire from the Legion. I was asked by members of Wellingborough Troop to apply for a Commission and assume the role of Troop Commander. I was Commissioned in August 1994 with the rank of Second Lieutenant and the Appointment of Wellingborough Troop Commander. In August 1995 I was promoted to Lieutenant at the end of my 1 year probationary period. In January 1998 I was promoted to Captain and appointed to U.K. Command Headquarters Staff. In 1993 I was awarded The Legion Cross of Merit for my efforts within Wellingborough Troop and U.K. Command. I am now trying to convince U.K. Command that they should embrace technology and join the rest of us cyber-junkies in the latter part of the 20th Century, no small task I can assure you. It seems that some members still see the telephone as the work of the devil ! |
Personal Bit I am 39 years old, married to Lesley and have a son, Declan, who is almost 4 years old. I am employed by Palmer Cook Computer Services Ltd. as a computer engineer. I have only 3 real interests in my life, My family, The Legion and Computers ( Yes, I suppose that I am a bit of a nerd). I live in the small rural Northamptonshire town of Rushden, the home of Dr. Marten's Air-wair boots ( Just to put it on the map). I enlisted in the British Army in 1976 and served with the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers as an Aircraft Technician in Germany, Northern Ireland and the U.K. over a 5 1/2 year period. I became interested in the Legion after I met some of their number at a local hotel where they were holding their Annual General Conference and "the rest", as they say, "is history". As to my interest in computers - well I could fill a small book about that. Suffice to say that I am keen on programming ( Delphi, C++, VB and SQL), I work on computers and spend every spare moment I get sitting at my computer - doing things like this (Not much of a games player). |
