CANADIAN FORCES BASE BAGOTVILLE
ALOUETTE, QUEBEC
Canadian Forces Base Bagotville is
located in the Saguenay River Valley between the towns of Chicoutimi and La Baie. Chicoutimi is 10 miles west of CFB Bagotville and has a population of approximately 80,000. The towns of Jonquiere (15 miles west) and La Baie (6 miles east) are also fairly large with populations of approximately 50,000 and 30,000 respectively. CFB Bagotville is approximately 135 miles north of
historic Quebec City, population 670,000. "Station Bagotville" opened in
July 1942, primarily to provide for regional defense, and closed at the end of
WWII. It reopened, however, in 1951, primarily as a training base, and has
been a mainstay in North American air defense ever since.
CFB Bagotville is home to
3 Wing, as well as
one of our exchange officers. Our exchange position consists of a
Captain or Major/K11F3Z CF-18 Pilot/Instructor Pilot, Assigned to the
425 Tactical Fighter Squadron.
