Programmers have, to varying degrees, developed systems to automate safety management in the past. Most systems developed to date range from form generators to highly complex database systems. Most also focus only on compliance issues. For a safety software application to be practical for use by the US Army or any other branch of the Department of Defense, it must be extendible, compatible, and supportable. Modular design techniques allow for updates to the application via the Internet without effecting an organization’s historic data. Several specific design features have been incorporated into the design of the Safety Management System software to meet these requirements. For compatibility, the Safety Management System is developed using modular concepts that allow for integration with other applications and future project expansion. The SMS can easily be integrated to share data with applications such as the Automated 759, ARAC, and the Enhanced Logbook Automation System. The key feature supporting this concept is the data model. Data is categorized into one of three types. Because data is structured into modular components, the Safety Management System can be easily modified to meet the specific needs of other branches of the military such as the Air Force or the Navy.

Comprehensive Safety Software

The Safety Management System is a safety manager's tool to assist and expedite hazard identification, control implementation, and hazard analysis. The Safety Management System assists in the administration of all aspects of the Safety Management Process. The Safety Management System software follows the same model as the Safety Manager's Guide and divides primary tasks into hazard identification and control implementation.  (I would like to express a special thanks to David Muzio for providing space that can support the bandwidth required to download the Safety Management System SE)
