Eight A-4SU from the Tengah Airbase was towed to the Jurong port for loading to Cazaux, France in the early morning on 2th March, 1999.
The planes were towed instead of being transported by trucks as there were overhead bridges and flyovers along the route.
It will take the planes 24 days to reach their port of destination at Bordeaux Port, France. There, it will join the other 10 planes which had already been in France to bring the unit to full strength.
The planes were in France as the RSAF had set up an Advanced Jet Training unit under the Defence Cooperation and Status of Forces Agreement with the French Government in October in 1998.
There would be about 200 RSAF personnel and 140 family members in France by April 1999.
