The RSAF's A-4SU is deployed at French Air Force Base 120, at Cazaux. It is located in the south-west of France, in the Bordeaux-Landes region.
The Singapore community is built around 18 A-4 Super Skyhawks, about 200 pilots, maintenance personnel and their families. The 600 strong contingent has helped in the sprouting up some Asian restaurants to open to cater for their needs and the children are also attending French schools.
The detachment in part of a five-year defence and military cooperation accord between the governments of Singapore and France.
The training includes air-to-air and air-to-ground combat. Also, 6 RSAF 150 squadron A-4s took part in Odax 99, a big annual air defence exercise with the Armee de L'Air and other European Air forces. The 11 day exercise saw the 6 A-4s being re-deployed in Colmar, eastern France and other pilots from Singapore are also sent. The event ended on April 30, 1999.
