The RSN has its first naval base officially opened by the then Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew on 26 Jan 1974. The base is Brani Naval Base, which is between the main island and the island Sentosa. The second base, Tuas Naval Base was opened in 1994.
There are 2 Flotillas in the navy and a Coastal Command (COSCOM). The 1st Flotilla is made up of the Missile Corvette Squadron, Missile Gunboat Squadron and Anti-Submarine Patrol Vessel Squadron. The 3rd Flotilla is made up of the Landing Ship Tank Squadron, Fast Craft Squadron and Civil Resource Squadron. For the COSCOM, under it are the Patrol Craft Squadron and Mine Counter-Measure Vessel Squadron.
