STEP

and

Shake it off

Big muscles don't come from light loads.

They come from carrying a lot of weight.

Weight can build you up, or bend you over.

It depends on how you use it

...and how you see it.

A parable is told of a farmer who owned an old mule. The mule fell into the farmer's well.  The water wasn't very deep, so the mule could stand on the bottom.  The farmer heard the mule praying - or whatever mules do when they fall into wells.

After carefully assessing the situation, the farmer sympathized with the mule, but decided that neither the mule nor the well was worth the trouble of saving.  Instead, he called his neighbors together and told them what had happened . . . and enlisted them to help haul dirt to bury the old mule in the well and put him out of his misery.

Initially, the old mule was hysterical.  But as the farmer and his neighbors continued shoveling and the dirt hit his back, a thought struck him.  It suddenly dawned on him that every time a shovel load of dirt landed on his back he should shake it off and step up .

This he did, blow after blow. "Shake it off and step up. . . shake it off and step up . .  shake it off and step up," the old mule repeated to encourage himself. No matter how painful the blows or how distressing the situation seemed, the old mule fought panic and just kept right on shaking it off and stepping up.  It wasn't long before the old mule, battered and exhausted, stepped triumphantly over the wall of the well.

What seemed like it would bury him, actually helped him, all because of the manner in which he handled his adversity.

That's life.

If we face our problems and respond to them positively, and if we refuse to give in to panic, bitterness, or self-pity . . . those adversities that come along to bury us usually have within them the very real potential to benefit us.

PUSH BACK

When life pushes you down, push back! That's what you're here for. You're capable, you're creative,  you're full of life and energy. You have what it takes to move yourself forward around any obstacle. Don't let anything stop you!

Take strength from meeting the challenges, and move ahead.   The struggles you face are just what you  need to fulfill your potential for greatness.

Think back over the past year. Consider the ways in which you've grown, the things you've learned, your accomplishments.  Most of these probably came from overcoming some challenge or adversity which initially stood in your way.

A year from now, when you look back at today, you'll see that the problem you're so concerned with right now, was another valuable lesson waiting to be learned.

With Each Day

May I positively impact the life of another, and smile more than frown;
Put service and compassion before my own renown;
Meet adversity with courage, sorrow with hope;
Have Faith to face uncertainty, and resiliency to cope;
With joy as my companion, and truth as my guide;
May I walk the path of excellence, gaining knowledge with each stride;
To see the good that lies within each person in suppression;
And through love and understanding, bring it forth into expression;
Though this day may bring new challenges, yet not manifest;
May I ever be reminded how much my life is blest;
Lord, Help me to appreciate each new day you give;
And in its every moment, may I rejoice, love, and live.
