INFORMATION SEARCH |
Very often I am asked for for help in obtaining information about an individual's service with the 10th Air Force. While I am always happy to offer what assitance I can, I am hardly an expert at finding out all there is to know about a specific individual's time in CBI. There are a number of government agencies, and private organizations where you can obtain the help you need to start a search for information. I have listed them below, along with information about them, and a link to their website.
National Personell Records Center |
The National Personell Records Center is the central repository for the service records of all veteran's of the Armed Forces of the United States. Records can be requested ONLY by mail or in person, and are NOT available on line. However, the form required to request a veteran's service records IS avilable on their web site. The form is currently available in the Adobe PDF format, which requires Adobe Acrobat in order to print it out. In order to request the service record of a veteran you must know the following information: Name, Branch of Service, Service or Social Security Number and approximate dates the veteran served. Complete information on how to obtain a veteran's service record is contained on the NPRC web site. Please be aware that the NPRC records division suffered a massive fire in the 1970's that damaged or destroyed about 75% of the records of World War II Veteran's. They have managed to piece together at least some information on most veteran's of that war, however, so a request for information is still well worth the effort. There is no charge for copies of the records they hold.
Air Force Historical Research Agency |
The U.S. Air Force Historical Research Agency is charged with maintining documents pretaining to the history of the United States Air Force. As the agency responsible for maintaining these documents it's holding include documents pretaining the activities of all USAF and USAAF units from the early days of the U.S. Army Air Corps to the present day. Queries can be made to them online, and, when possible, replies will be made online, generally via E-mail.
Department Of Veteran's Affairs |
The United States Department of Veteran's Affairs is a cabinet level agency of the United States. This department is charged with formulating and adminstering all Federal veteran's programs, including educational, rehabilitative and medical care. The Dept of Veteran's Affairs maintains copies of the discharge papers for all veteran's of the Armed Forces of the United States.
American Legion |
Disabled American Veterans |
The Disabled American Veterans are a non profit veteran's service organization who primary mission is to assist veteran's in obtaining and maintaining the benefits they have earned and deserve. They publish a bi-monthly magazine for their members which, in addition to information pretaining to benefits and medical care issues, contains a section listing reunions of units from each of the services.
