Straight from the Heart

I'd like to talk to you about something that is very important to me---spaying & neutering your pets. Please don't contribute to the pet over-population problem! Every single year in this country millions of healthy, beautiful animals lose their lives, just because they were born unwanted. Animals of all ages, even newborn kittens and nursing mothers, are "put to sleep", just because they have no home. Spaying and neutering is simple, inexpensive & it's just the right thing to do!

Now, on to request number two.....please consider adopting your next pet from a shelter. There are so many wonderful animals there (just look at ME!) and so few of them ever find a good home. If you can't adopt, there are lots of other ways you can help. Just give your local shelter a call. I'm sure they have a wish list that they would be happy to share with you!

One last thing, and this is very important! PLEASE remember that a pet is a lifetime commitment. Don't get a kitten or puppy just because we're cute and fluffy and tiny, unless you're sure you'll still want us when we're big & clumsy or old and sick. We'll love you whether you're young or old, rich or poor, sick or healthy. Please give us that same respect. I promise you won't regret it!

A recent segment of Dateline NBC disturbed me more that I can even begin to express. The segment concerned the slaughter of domestic cats & dogs for fur. Some of the fur is making its way into the U.S. An undercover investigation by the Humane Society found coats with dog fur trim for sale in a major US department store chain, and items made with dog fur have been found in gift shops. Please urge your senators & representatives to stop this now! The Humane Society has prepared sample letters, and they also have a page where you can search for your senators' & representative's email addresses. They also have lists of major department stores that you may contact regarding the sale of fur. Go here for more information.
