How to Adopt a Person

This is how to adopt a person as told to Pookie's Pal by Pookie. Once upon a time, Pookie lived with a family of a mommy, daddy, son, daughter, dog, and 3 cats (besides Pookie). Pookie was a furball of bright orange, gray, and white. Just like one of those stress balls you squeeze and throw. Pookie didn't like living in a house full of other critters. After all, Pookie was special and needed special attention.

One day Pookie's Pal came to visit the mommy. Pookie tried her best to get Pookie's Pal to play with her but Pookie's Pal didn't like cats much (well, not at that time, but Pookie was determined to change that). Pookie played with Pookie's Pals feet, purred at her, and all to no avail *pout*

After an hour of this, Pookie's Pal got up out of her chair to get something to eat. Perfect! Pookie jumped in the chair and waited patiently for Pookie's Pal to come back. Pookie thought "She will have to pay attention to me now because she I am in her chair *hehe*"

Pookie's Pal came back to her chair and stopped short. Hmmmmm. Mommy said, "She wants you to hold her so she sat in your chair. Now you have to pay attention to her." Pookie's Pal then picked Pookie up and gingerly held her. Pookie purred with sheer delight!! At last!! Pookie's Pal gave her some attention!

A couple of weeks later, mommy told Pookie's Pal that she had taken Pookie to the animal shelter. "What!" exclaimed Pookie's Pal in utter disgust. Mommy explained that Pookie wasn't litter trained and was too much to handle with all the other household responsibilities (at this time, Pookie was 3 months old). Pookie's Pal was heartbroken.

Right before closing time, Pookie's Pal visited the shelter. The shelter man led Pookie's Pal to the cat area. What disgust! Cats and kittens all scrunched up together in one cage! Pookie's Pal couldn't find Pookie. OH NO!! Then, as Pookie's Pal was about to leave the cage, she heard a faint meeeooowwww! meeeoowwww! Pookie's Pal stopped dead in her tracks and looked closer in the cage. That sounded like Pookie. It was Pookie!! Pookie's Pal rescued Pookie and took her home.

Pookie was scared in her new home. She scratched and clawed Pookie's Pal. After a few hours, Pookie's Pal took Pookie in her arms and carried her to a chair to sit down. Pookie's Pal rubbed, loved, and held Pookie crying at the thought that this precious critter might have been put to sleep. Pookie purred. Throughout her life, Pookie loved to sit in Pookie's Pal's chair and be held. Now that is one way to adopt a person *smile*.
