Nicky as a kitten
A study in light
Nicky’s most notable characteristic is that she likes to take walks
with her mistress. It doesn’t matter how long the walk
will be, as long as there are no dogs to chase her or
kitty friends to distract her. The only time she will
allow herself to be picked up is when she knows that it
is for the best, like when crossing the road or avoiding
canines.
Some nice shade on a warm Summer day
Nicky is considered a community cat which means that I am not her only owner (not that any human can consider themselves an owner to a cat). In this instance, though, she goes to visit the homes of several families in our community, including two elderly couples. Currently she is having a weight problem due to the fact that these families are also feeding her. I have yet to figure out a way to control her consumption, considering that I have no idea how many people she goes to visit during the day. Suggestions on this matter would be appreciated, but locking her indoors is not an option.

Little Lame One
Nicky came to me as a kitten with her sister Mindy when
they were only 2 weeks old. There were four in the
litter, and I chose Nicky because she was the runt along
her twin who was male. I was going to take the male, but
picked up Nicky instead. When I got home, I never
bothered to check her gender and assumed that I had a
boy. At the time, she was being fed kitten formula and
would get it all over her chin. I called her Nicodemus
because she had a white beard. When I finally
discovered that she was in fact a she, Nicodemus turned
into Nicolet or otherwise known as Nicky.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who's the cutest of them all?
She is considered the little lame one because one day she
came home with a limp. The Vet deemed that she had a
fractured paw. We do not know what caused her injury, but
after two weeks of laying low, it would never be known
that she was lame. For about a month, though, whenever I
came into the room she acted as though she were at
death’s door, but the minute I turned my back she was
running and scampering about.
Nicky and Pawley take a nap with Nicky’s kittens
One day I noticed that Nicky was getting larger. After a few months, she gave birth to two kittens. I can only assume that the father was my first cat, Bootsy. The kittens became sick shortly after birth. Then, on Labor Day of 1998, a particularly nasty storm rose up suddenly out of nowhere, and I had accidentally left the windows in my apartment open. The next day both kittens were dead.
