Daisy (Feb 1, 1992 - May 9, 2001)
daisy2a.jpg
On this day, a huge hole ripped through my heart when I found you dead. I never imagined that you would leave me so soon.

No dog will ever replace you and I doubt any will measure up to you. We had a special bond that may only occur once in a human’s life and I was fortunate to have shared nine of my years with you. After losing your front leg our relationship seemed to deepen as you stayed close to the house and became my constant companion. You walked, hiked, cross-county skied, snow-shoed and even went on trail rides with me. Most of all I will miss hearing you softly snore while I worked at my desk while the house was asleep.

Good-bye Queen of my Dreams, you will be forever in my heart.

Dakota - 6-22-00 to 4-1-04
dell.jpg

I lost my beloved Dakota today.  He was lost for three days after we took out dogs on a walk. I looked for him every day and thought that he would come back. When he did try to come back he had to cross a highway and someone hit him. My husband found him the next morning, I miss him so much, he was my constant companion and my sleeping buddy, now I will never see him again. It is hard for me to explain the pain that I feel, every time that I look where he used to sleep I think that he is still there but he isn’t I hope that God keeps a special place for pets that so when we die we can see them again. I have attached a scanned photo of my dog, please post it for me so that when I need a friend he is there.

Dakota ~ Dec 2, 2000 - July 24, 2004
Blue Eyes

Baby's got blue eyes
Like a deep blue sea
On a blue blue day
Blue eyes
Baby's got blue eyes
When the morning comes
I'll be far away
And I say
Blue eyes
Holding back the tears
Holding back the pain
Baby's got blue eyes
And she's alone again

Blue eyes
Baby's got blue eyes
Like a clear blue sky
Watching over me
Blue eyes
I love blue eyes
When I'm by her side
Where I long to be
I will see
Blue eyes laughing in the sun
Laughing in the rain
Baby's got blue eyes
And I am home again,
and I am home again.

-Elton John

Dakota, The light of my life! You were my friend, My healer and the gentlest soul I have ever met. Your eyes showed every emotion and it was all to easy to get lost in them. Everyone who ever met you knew what a special little girl you were. Life will never be the same without you. Brother Chayanne, Nephew Comanche, Friend Phoenix and cousin Whiskey are in the best of company now. Play in your water, Have fun and wait for me at The Rainbow Bridge! You have my heart always!
Rest in peace,

Digger - Mala Glen Bear

digger2a.jpg

Digger came from the Mala kennels in Perth West Australia and came home with us when we lived in Exmouth. The one pic was taken after his first clip and the other is a ball game in Geralton WA where he was the team mascot.

Digger used to snorkel with me and go down as far as I. He found some of my best live shells in the Exmouth gulf. He was a special baby. Unfortunately Digger died of Diabetes complications after 3 years of regulating him. What a sweetie, I want another, maybe one day.

NOTE: Digger is truly an Aussie…he was born there! We are including Digger on our Aussie Tribute website to thank his "Mom" Missi for designing the lovely logo at the top of our page. Rest in peace little fella.

Duncan

This is my sweet Aussie boy, Duncan... 8/97 - 7/03. He's the blue merle I "never wanted"! When we went to look at the pups, my request was for a tri-color girl. The breeder put the merle puppies back in the kennel. We decided on the little girl that we wanted and were and getting ready to leave. I looked to my right, and there was the cutest little green-eyed, blue merle baby with his nose sticking through the chain-link. Quiety...just looking at us. I turned and said to my husband "Wait!" lol The rest is history. "Duncan" chose us, no doubt about it.

Dundee

Dundee was the sweetest, gentlest Aussie we've ever known.  Even in advancing years, he never seemed to lose that little puppy that was deep inside him.  He became a special friend to his human mom Linda during times of ill health or sadness.  When we lost the two girls Caighley and Matilda in 2001, Linda made a bargain with Dundee. A bargain that he stay with us until his thirteenth birthday this April of 2002.  Linda could not bear the thought of losing one more dog in the same year.  The deal was that if Dundee kept the bargain, he was free to go and Linda wouldn't be angry with him for leaving.  Well, he kept the bargain and then some.  He stayed with us till July 2002.

Dundee

Dundee lived with our family for 14 years. He came to us as a little black and white furball. I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome shortly after Dundee turned a year and he became my own personal therapy dog.  How could I ignore those big brown eyes looking up at me? I had to get up to play with my baby boy. Slowly, but surely I recovered from my illness with the help of my boy.

One of Dundee's favorite past-times was chasing geese from the ground as they flew through the air. He would get that silly Aussie grin on his face when  I would say "Dundee! Geese!" He would leap and jump always trying to catch the geese, but, of course, he never did. One of my first memories of him as a pup was his chasing butterflies-- always just out of his reach at the tip of his nose.

Dundee could "talk." We would ask him, "What's on top of the house?" and he would always answer "Roof." One of my son's friends really thought that he could talk. He was so funny, such a clown, always making me laugh.  Another of his favorites was making what we call "snow doggies" as opposed to snow angels. He would do the flop and roll in the snow and thank me, thank me, thank me for the snow.

I learned so much from Dundee. I learned that you should always take time to smell the dandelions. Fly high to reach those goals and remember that the road along the way is most of the fun. Always smile and approach life with a joyful heart.

In my mind's eye, Dundee is flying high through the air trying to catch those geese, with a butterfly on his nose. Good night, sweet boy. You made my life full of sunshine and snow doggies.

Gadget - July 4/84 - Oct 25/98
goodbyegadget.jpg
On that Sunday morning we went to the local dog park, and afterwards my friend Anna went with us to our vet's house. Dr. J painlessly eased him out of this life. We all sat on the floor, Gadget was leaned up against my leg, and I stroked his head as he slipped away. His trust in me and in Dr. J made it easier for all of us. I had been thinking about it for awhile, especially as he was deteriorating the past few months. Finally I decided it was time, to keep him from suffering the indignities of his infirmities. It was hard to do the right thing for him but I am glad he was able to enjoy most of his last days....and a long, happy life. He was such a great companion all those years, even though his best days were long behind him. I adopted Gadget, a black tri, in Albuquerque, New Mexico when he was about 20 months old. I will admit to asking his former owner, "Are you sure he's an Australian Shepherd? I thought they were all that speckled gray." We later moved to Austin, Texas, and we spent a year in the Washington, DC area. Wherever we went, people wanted to know what kind of dog Gadget was. Thanks to the Internet, I hooked up with other Aussie people, and learned so much more about the breed and about being a better dog owner. This led me to Aussie Rescue, where I am devoting much time and energy. I didn't plan to do rescue work in his honor, but I want to help other Aussies have the chance to find new homes and perhaps as wonderful a relationship as I had with Gadget.

Ginger - 1990 ~ 2006
Ginger was a special dog that came into Mike's life and heart . She touched Mike's heart and he became her forever home. She was still young and thrived with Mike and he with her. They formed a rare partnership of love and understanding. He understood her boundaries and stress-levels. They hiked a lot and she learned that life was good. Together they shared all of life's big and small adventures helping each other to overcome tremendous obstacles. While Mike convalesced from a tragic accident, being ran over by a truck, it was Ginger by his bedside urging him to get out of bed (as she had needs). It was Ginger who encouraged him to heal and work hard to recover, and fight depression. In a way she saved his life. They truly LOVED one another. As time flew her muzzle became grey and she suffered ailments as most older dogs and folks will. Mike endlessly, lovingly, and gently provided comforts as her life began to fade.. The void Ginger has left in Mike's home and heart will never be filled by another. There could never be another Ginger. She was truly a special dog sent from heaven. She shall always be missed.

Gloria loved our grandchildren Jennifer and Keith.  She & Keith were like velcro. Whenever the Grandkids came over, Gloria would ignore me & follow Keith all over the house.  She also gave hugs.  If I said "Where's my hug" she would come over to me, lean on me and put her leg around the back of my leg.  There are so many wonderful things to say about her.  She was so intelligent we had to spell everything.  Gloria is loved and missed by all of us, she was our beautiful, happy Girl.  We look forward to seeing her again at the Rainbow Bridge.

Griddy - Bayshore's Hot Off The Griddle CD, CGC

Griddy was my first Aussie, as well as my 4-H, Junior showmanship, and Pets on Wheels dog. She was the best puppy raiser and started a horrible addiction to this wonderful breed. She always gave me 200% when I asked, and sometimes when I didn't. We made it through many battles, including ivermectin toxicity, but eventually lost her battle to lymphosarcoma. More importantly, she was my best friend and I miss her greatly. Now she is over the Rainbow Bridge playing frisbee with all of her old pals. She will be in our hearts forever!

You don't need to be a champion to be great and Hazel was one great Aussie, when she passed she left those indelible paw prints on the hearts of all those she touched. She will be sorely missed at Megabucks. It is way too quiet here now without her bark. Maybe if I listen carefully late at night when it is really quiet I can still hear her bark come through the open window above our bed, carried to us on the wind by way of the Rainbow Bridge. The joyous bark of Hazel, barking happily without pain. I will listen often for Hazel and always remember a very special lady whose stay here on earth was ever so short, but even that short time was filled with so much joy...Hazel, we miss you so!

MY GIFT TO JESUS

I wish someone had given little Jesus a dog as loving and loyal as mine
to sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes and adore him for being Divine
As Our Lord Jesus grew to manhood,
His own faithful dog would have followed Him all through the day
while He preached to the crowds
and made the sick well and knelt in the garden to pray
It is sad to remember that Christ went away to face death alone and apart
with no tender dog following close behind to comfort His Master's heart
And when Jesus rose on that Easter morn how happy He would have been
as His dog kissed His hand and barked its delight
for the One who died for all man
Well the Lord has a dog now, I just gave him mine the old pal so dear to me
and I smile through my tears on this first day alone
knowing they're in eternity.

 Joey

On Sunday September 23,2007 we lost Joey. I gave Joey her forever home when the original owner returned her to the breeder. She brought great joy into my home. Not only did she bring joy, she also performed miracles! My new husband's mother was terrified of all dogs (even the smallest). Before long Joey had won her heart! She had been nervous staying at home by herself, but after she came to love Joey, she didn't even care if we came home at all!

Other than winning the hearts of all that met her, Joey had special ways with different people. A disabled relative that visited had Joey sitting gently by his side, a friend that didn't like dogs had Joey "chase" him, other friends recieved a joyous and energetic greeting. Neighbours visited with Joey over the fence.

Joey wasn't even just the family pet, she was a "full-fledged" family member, getting into the middle of anything that was happening. She was happiest when all her family was home and she could visit all of us.

Joey will be sadly missed by everyone.

UAG2 Big Run Katie Scarlett NA, NAC-V, CGC, TDIA
October 26, 1992 - September 18. 2003

On September 8th, Katie caught her final Frisbee. On September 18, 2003, she left her pawprints on our hearts.

Katie loved Frisbee almost as much as she loved me. She was always ready to play. Katie was a regional Frisbee champion and had placed at many other competitions. She also excelled at agility. But her favorite activity was being a therapy dog. When we would pull up in the parking lot of Deerbrook Care Centre, she would do her “Katie dance” in excitement. She loved visiting all of her friends and entertaining them with her highflying Frisbee moves. Katie enjoyed participating in shows and demos to benefit humane organizations, children’s charities and the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. She was featured on the PAX TV Show Miracle Pets for her work in animal assisted therapy.

We packed much into a very short almost 11 years. Katie was the love of my life, my special dog. She was my soul mate and my protector. Katie touched the lives of so many people in such a special way and she just thought she was having fun.

“God gave you style and gave you grace. God put a smile on your face.”

She is sorely missed by her friends at Deerbrook Care Centre in Joliet, IL, Windy City K9 Disc Club, and Blitzen Agility Club of Chicago. But mostly her human family, Gayle, Paul and Jordan Silberhorn, Hannah, Alec and Jennifer Stein, miss her.

 Lucy

Lucy was surrendered to the Tipton County animal shelter in Brighton, TN. I rescued her on March 24, 2006. She was skinny as can be and I could feel every bone in her body.  She was very skittish and I got her to where she loved us to death.  On April 19th, 2006 she somehow slipped out of the house and was tragically killed by a car. The impact of the car killed her instantly.

I loved you sweet my sweet dear Lucy. I will miss you baby!
