I grew up in northern Michigan, married in 1978, shortly therafter the Air Force moved us to Anchorage, Alaska with daughters Dani and Lisa.
We immediately bought a backyard bred Black Labrador, and named her "Belle." It was she who introduced us to crate-training after eating an entire cake, several dozen donuts, a sleeping bag and raiding the trash more times than I can count!
In 1990, I purchased my first boxer from Marcella and Beth Mushovic of Stevenstar Boxers; a plain fawn bitch I gave the original name of "Penny." She was the first dog I bought to "show" and Penny earned 4 points and 4 BOS before letting me, the judges and everyone at ringside know that showing was not her bright idea!
We decided to make Anchorage our permanent home, although in February when the temperatures often dip lower than 30 below, you have to wonder why?!
From the whelping box, Penny gave me my first homebred champions. She and Belle were beloved members of our family and are missed very much. Sadly, we lost both of them within two days of each other in May, 1998.
