As mentioned earlier, my mother raises Labrador Retrievers. To me, Labradors epitomize the qualities that humans so admire in dogs. Labradors are loyal, loving, patient, smart, eager to please, easy to train, and are content to be the pillow for the kids or a foot rest for the adults. They ask nothing more than to be loved and to be allowed to love you in return and, of course, to share your dinner. Of all the dog breeds, the Labrador Retriever is unparalleled in service to mankind. Labradors aid law enforcement officers in detecting explosives, narcotics, and weapons. They act as guide dogs to the blind, assistance dogs for the deaf and disabled, therapy dogs, and seizure detection dogs. They even protect the environment by detecting leaks in pipelines one hundred thousand times more accurately than the most sophisticated and sensitive instrumentation available today. In addition, they excel in the field trial arena, in the obedience ring, and on the agility course. They are superb sporting dogs and swimming companions. But the place they achieve the most is in the homes of their owners bringing joy and love to the lives of their families.
