Normally, young ferrets only bite to try whether it is possible to eat the stuff they are biting in. This biting may not feel very bad or cause wounds, but just feels like a pinch. This way of biting can normally be unlearned very quick by just ticking your ferret on the nose ( not too hard !) or saying "naughty" / "no" when he bites in this way. By doing this, about 90% of all ferrets are learnt not to bite anymore in about 1 or 2 weeks.
For the taugh ones……
Sometimes, you have a ferret
fond of hanging in your flesh. If so, the following might be a good approach
to unlearn your ferret the bad habit : You pick your ferret up, hold his
head in one hand. Then you open his mouth with the same hand. You just
put your thumb inside his mouth with one finger. Not very deep, but just
enough to get your ferret struggling to get your thumb out of his mouth.
The ferret will not be able to bite you when doing so, since you open it’s
mouth with your hand. Normally, ferrets do not like this approach and usually
the biting will become lesser by means of this approach.
