Romeo and Juliet

This is a brief summarization of the play Romeo and Juliet which I just learned in my ninth grade english class, taught by Mrs Gail Rackley. The play is written by William Shakespeare and played out in the Globe Theatre in 1592. It was highly successful, making record takings of 1,840 pence.

ACT I: VERONA, ITALY
SCENE i: Daytime in a public place. Sunday afternoon.
Servents of the Capulet's family, Sampson and Gregory, meet Montague's men in a street. They argue and and then eventually start fighting. That's when Benvolio, Romeo's good friend, comes and stops their fighting. Escalus, Prince of Verona also arrives and gives them the warning that if anyone that start a fight will die. Also Romeo is sad about losing a girl who he loves dearly, Rosaline, but Benovolio encourages to forget about Rosaline and look for other women.

SCENE ii: In a street at late afternoon on Sunday.
Count Paris, a kinsman of the Prince, is asking Lord Capulet for Juliet's hand in marriage. Capulet, who truly cares for his daughter, says his daughter is young adn so wait for two more years when she is sixteen. Then he invites Paris to a party that will take place that night. While Romeo learns of this party and decide to go because Rosaline is going to be there. So Benovolio, Romeo and couple of other men will other attend this party in disguise!

SCENE iii: A room in the Capulet house, near evening on Sunday.
Lady Capulet, Juliet mom with a nasty temper,and the Nurse, Juliet's comical friend, discuss about Juliet's youthfulness. The Nurse braggs about a joke when Juliet was a child she fell on her face and the Nurse's husband also told Juliet to fall on your back is better than on your face and Juliet replies, "Ay". Then juliet arrives and Lady Capulet advise her to check out Paris and how he looks and acts and talks.

SCENE iv: A street in Verona on Sunday night, before the Capulet party.
Romoe is still sad about Rosaline and they have decided to go to the Capulet party with masks on so they will not be recognized. Benvolio only wants to go so he can dance and then leave. While Mercutio, Romeo's cynic but attractive friend with devastating wits, is trying to make Romeo happy by talking about Queen Mab who is a sweet fairly like creature who comes into dreams and makes them pleasant or frightful. So Romeo, Benvolio and Mercutio are ready to go to the party.

SCENE v:A hall in Capulet's house on Sunday night.
The three Montagues get in and start to have fun, but Tybalt, hot tempered and quick to anger cousin of Juliet, spots them and informs Lord Capulet of the Montagues arrival, but Lord Capulet let the matter go because he does not want ot start a conflict at the party when people are enjoying themselves. Then as the party goes on Romeo meets Juliet and they both instantely fall in love, but Juliet later finds out by her Nurse that Romeo is a Montague and is very disappointed. Finally the party ends and everbody leaves.
