Rotary International has always recognized the need for development of young leaders in our many Rotary nations. To achieve this, R.I. has adopted the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Program to encourage and assist young people in the development of their leadership skills.
RYLA's Purpose: to challenge the ideals of young people from the age of 18 to 28 years. Selected by the local Rotary Club in their Districts to receive the award, young people are entitled to attend a week long seminar aimed at developing further their personal and leadership skills. Intro taken from www.rotaryryla.com
I was fortunate enough to be approached by my local Council (Bayside) and selected by Brighton Rotary in 2002 to participate in this wonderful experience (held by District 9800), and was then given the chance to be a team leader (GO LIME!) of District 9810's RYLA in 2003. In 2004 I was offered to be a senior team leader for District 9810's RYLA, although work commitments had me stand down this opportunity, however I still volunteered my time on the weekend, after work and days that I had taken T.I.L. Due to overseas travel I didn't put my hand up again for 2005. I would like to thank Glenda, the Director of RYLA 9810 for 2003 and 2004, and all of the hard working members that put together each year's RYLA for their support and experience that I had gained as a result of my involvement. Good luck for the future :)
I highly encourage young people from 18 to 28 years of age to participate in RYLA, as you will gain so much knowledge and potential friends/networks along the action-packed week. Approach your local Rotary Club for further information.
