Bundamba

Ipswich district (30mins from Brisbane CBD)

Built: early 1999

The suburb area called Bundamba is in the outskirts of the greater Ipswich district, closer to the Brisbane side than the west/country side. To get to this skate park from Brisbane, just get on the main road (freeway in some areas) to Ipswich and this follows a very direct route past where you want to go. The name of the road changes a bit, but it is called Brisbane Rd in the Bundamba part of the trip west. It is a long road, so if you look for the Ipswich Racecourse on your map, or find Wickham St in the same area, it is very near there.

Thankfully, this park did not go the same way that the Ipswich park did in terms of construction and general skate knowledge. I would say this is a quite well laid out street course, including quarters, banks, hips, a box in the middle with a rail going along and down each side and a couple of other little things which have on the whole been copied from other places. There is also a "Paddington" style bowl set into the ground at the other end to all this. The transitions on the quarters are a little strange, some being very tight and others not knowing whether they are supposed to be banks or quarters or what. The coping does stick out a little more than usual, but the surface of the whole place is very smooth, similar to Ferny Grove with a natural colour dye mixed into the concrete.

It is a good idea to take a broom as there are a lot of stones and bark from the "nature surroundings" that the council put in. Also, the bowl does turn into a swimming pool when there is a lot of heavy rail in a short period of time, so watch out for that. All the locals there are pretty cool, even though there are a lot of smaller kids on bikes always just going round and round getting in everyone's way, but you need not take an attitude as they will usually move if you ask them nicely.

Overview of bowl end
This is the main box and rail arrangement.
Grind rail on box, quarter to bank behind.

The grind rail is quite wide and flat, and the banks leading up to it are easy to do things on.
