6th EditionThis page was last updated on Friday, 02 August 2002. |
So 6th edition is out, not bad as there has been 5 revisions in 18 years (till October 2000). I think the first couple came out quite quickly, with the time between 4th, 5th, and 6th being almost 5 years each time. Current pricing is £25 for the hardback book, and £50 for the boxed set. Anyway, I shall attempt to put stuff here for those already knowledgeable on 5th edition, with updates as the new army books get released (supposedly one every two months). Don't expect everything to get covered, as I really only play Elves.
6th Edition High Elves:Well you can check the High Elves page for more info, but in brief. From 5th -> RH -> 6th High Elves have become slithgly cheaper, but not proportinately as much as the other races, so you can be very badly outnumbered now. Cavalry is more effective than infantry, and HtH is much better than shooting. Magic items are toned down, but they are cheaper than other armies for the same effect, most are utility items a few ok swords. We also get "Honours" now, basically magic items that give abilities and cant be negated. One big change is the new "Intrigue at Court" rule which randomisies your armies general. I dont think you'll see many shooting orientated armies now, HE magic can be quite good, and with the Intrigue rule it makes it hard to depend on a strategy for a defensive army. Most people are either going all-cav, a magic heavy and shooty, magic and infantry counter-attack type armies. The 6th ed book puts HE at the lower end of the power-scale. Skaven are currently probably the nastiest, then Vampires or Chaos, Empire and downwards. It wouldnt be so bad but for the random general rule, but its really only an update on RH and rather bland at that. Oh well, where's 7th coming out again...? |
