VINCE NOLASCO of West Caldwell, N.J., a Life Support technician
(those are the folks who maintain the filtration and plumbing systems
that keep the aquarium a proper habitat for the fish), dived the red Viking dress.
Upon returning to the surface, Vince was so eager for a cigarette that the
tenders gave him a smoke through the MkV spitcock -- an old Navy stunt.
Vince admitted that taking that first drag was great, but the second-hand
smoke from the next few puffs made the helmet a pretty rough environment!
Of course, everyone was watching the smoke coming out of the exhaust valve
and nobody was in a hurry to open the faceplate!
Jim Folk has since taken out the ashtray and declared his MkV a "non-smoking" section.

AQUARIST JIMMY CLARKIN was the only experienced MkV diver in the crew,
and the 1976 graduate of the dive school at the Florida Institute of Technology
had worked as an oilfield diver before coming to Epcot. He proudly wore
his Mar-Vel T-shirt! His experience was evident as the handled the rig
in the water like a seasoned pro. He was tended by Ashley Yuratich and Dave Sturgess.

ASHLEY YURATICH from Gretna, La., one of the DiveQuest divemasters
couldn't resist the "Frankenstein boots" (above), and was eager (below left)
to try out the rest of the MkV rig. She is a strong diver, though, and had
no problem handling the gear in the water.

THE NEXT DIVERS were divemaster Don Bouer (left)
and aquarist Alan McDowell (right) who hails from Nashville, Tennessee.
