This is a starting place for anyone new to the sport of snowboarding. .

Welcome to the sport of Snowboarding!

You probably have a lot of questions about snowboarding. How much will it cost? Will I get hurt? How the heck do I get down the mountain?? I've tried to answer all these questions and more below. Each question either has a direct answer or a link to a page with more information. Even if you feel you're still a beginner, you might want to check out the intermediate section to continue learning.

1. How much will it cost my first time?

This price is going to vary on where you rent from, what equipment you already have, and your locall ski area prices. On average, to rent boots and a board is about $40. Lift tickets average between $30 and $40. If you need snow pants, its about $10, and a pant and jacket set is about $20. Board + Boots + Lift Ticket + Pants= $90. These are all just rental prices. If you really decide you love the sport, you should probably buy your own equipment. It'll save you a lot of money in the long run, and you know you're riding what you like. But remember, a board collecting dust isn't worth any money.

2. Will I get hurt?

This is up to you. Yes, people do get hurt. But they're usually doing something they're not ready for, or trying to learn too fast. Remember to learn at your own level, be cautious, and use common sense. Follow these three rules and you should be fine!

3. How do I get started?

Check out the Tips section I've put together on how to get started.

4. What are some basic tricks I can learn?

Surf to my section on beginner tricks. It'll take you a little while to pick these up, but after you learn these you'll have the basics of snowboarding down and be ready to move on.
