The Calgary stampede is the greatest outdoor show on earth. The day started with a pancake breakfast on the stampede grounds.
The rodeo clowns not only keep people entertained between events, but they protect the competitors during the bullriding by distracting the bull after the 8 second ride.
The riders and flag bearers line up outside the saddledome before the start of the afternoon rodeo.
This picture of the Calgary police also shows the chutes where the riders mount and typical rodeo dress.
There are many other displays, this year there were trained dogs, a "Mission to Mars" science show and, shown here,a BMX bike/skateboard display.
John and Deborah are walking along the overhead walkway which connects the tram to the saddledome. This is the home of the grain institute, with a large model railway to show how grain is taken from Alberta to the sea across the Rockies.
