Did you know that San Diego County is a national "hot spot" for species extinction? That's right, San Diego's rampant development threatens nearly 200 species which are currently considered threatened or endangered. Each and every one has a great potential to go extinct, right in our backyard, unless we take action now!
The city council needs to take immediate action to protect the county's wildlife, before it is too late. The first step is curbing development which has gotten out of control, especially in recent years. The next step is introducing legislation for stronger laws against development in untouched areas and habitat known to contain populations of endangered species. You can help by writing San Diego City council and encouraging them to take whatever actions necessary to protect San Diego's wildlife.

Take Action!
The major reason for species decline is human encroachment and habitat loss. By controlling urban sprawl and limiting growth, we can help preserve territory for plants and animals. Please write to your representative today and ask them to support the Better America Bonds Act (H.R. 2446) which fights urban sprawl by financing smart growth measures, revitalizing urban areas, and removing open space from the path of development. For a sample letter and more background information on urban sprawl and H.R. 2446, please check out the Sierra Club's Action Alert Center.
