Maximizing Memory
- Create a PERMANENT swapfile.
-
- Open the Main Folder in Program Manager.
- Double click on the Control Panel icon.
- Double click on the 386 enhanced icon.
- Click on the Virtual Memory button.
- Click on the Change button.
- Select your fastest hard drive (usually the largest one).
- Make sure the type of swapfile is set as permanent.
- Type in the recommended size. If you want more, a good rule of thumb is 2-3 times the amount of RAM.
- Windows 3.11 offers 32-bit access for the compatible drives and files. If offered, activate both the drive and file by checking the boxes.
Note: If you are using a laptop with power save features, DO NOT check the drive access. This can destroy files and information on the drive if both the powersave feature and 32 bit drive access are 'on'.
- Click on OK, reboot, and enjoy the improved performance.
