Our future and security lie not in suburban sprawl, but in building tall. By using technological control in daily operations, Project AVATAR takes the normal economies of scale present in larger structures and multiplies them by creating efficiencies at all levels of function. Besides lowering costs for building owners and managers, an AVATAR building will be kind to the environment without sacrificing comfort.
New facial and voice recognition technology, along with recent progress in computer and network memory management ensures that the “human touch” favored by tenants is not lost in the size. By having a central intelligence to monitor, test, and assist in troubleshooting all vital systems, the productivity of maintenance staff is protected. Building owners and occupants are freed from the shocks of staff turnover and equipment change.
Project AVATAR will raise the standards of emergency operation. By gathering a far more complete picture through its vast sensor network, the AVATAR will make swift and effective decisions, marshalling all available resources to protect its occupants, its own integrity, and the surrounding area.
In modern urban planning, developers seek to make their structures good neighbors. Project AVATAR will give them this and more, creating a building that contributes to the community.
Due to the origins of Project AVATAR, this work has been inextricably wound up with my Twin Towers rebuilding advocacy. In essence, these are two different efforts that stand independently, but, like the Twin Towers that inspired them, share infrastructure underneath, emotional and rational.
The AVATAR concept and system will be applicable to any large structure (large because the net revenue derived from the building must be sufficient to justify the higher up-front costs of installation). Whatever replaces the Twin Towers need not have an AVATAR (it will be easier to draw tenants with an AVATAR, though I would object to consigning an AVATAR to existence as an extremely ugly structure like some proposed).
Below is the listing and description of all Project AVATAR pages, labled as to which of the two goals is emphasised there. Some, necessarily, have both.
Genesis: It was September 14th before I could put words to what I was feeling. When those words came through, they burst forth like Athena from Zeus' skull. Inspiration planted the seed in me through this poem.
The next works came about a month later as I struggled to give voice to the call I felt within. The first set down the rationale for rebuilding bigger and better.

Finally, as a gesture of growth, another poem came to me as a result of attending the Realcomm conference. I represented Project AVATAR and found a whole lot more there in that city to love.

Designed to illustrate feasibility, this section also hosts a page of reference links for anyone who wishes to learn more about the art of the skyscraper construction.
Currently about 4/5 complete, this gives more details on the nature and functioning of an AVATAR, how it would work in the building, the benefits it offers the tenants, managers, owners, and community, and basic structure of the AI within.
The Bookshelf offers works of interest on skyscrapers, structural engineering, and architecture with reviews so one can select based on one's knowledge level.
The AVATAR links page will refer you to the major organizations active in building automation and skyscraper construction, the leading public databases in the field, the best fan sites, and several others concerned primarily with WTC rebuilding advocacy.
The Cause: In these pages I write about the urgency of the Twin Towers rebuilding movement, why this is the best and should be the only option for the future of this country. Two are up now, more will be here in the near future.
