The first competition we entered was way back in 1998. We were known as the Raiders (same as our school), and were somewhat lost. Our second year went far better, and though we
didn't win our robot was a vast improvement. Now with two years under our belt and a large body of eager students, Team Inferno is ready to compete.
The 1999 Competition
In 1999 our robot was entirely student built, from the designing to the machining of parts. Our first
test came at the Philadelphia Alliance Regional, at Temple University. Within moments of our first practice round we located numerous flaws that needed to be corrected. We spent the rest of the night fixing the robot. In competition our robot held up well. Our "power rollers" built to not only drive the robot while in the arena, but also able to drive the puck while the robot was atop it performed exceptionably well. We were able to push our opponents with ease. In competition with the help of our alliances, we won many of our rounds. While we were not selected for the finals, we were satisfied with our success.
After the return from the regionals, we were unable to work on our robot because of a snow-storm.
However, we managed to make a few modifications before we sent the robot to Nationals. Once at Nationals, we went right to work adding, removing, and replacing parts. By the time the competition rounds started we were ready. Our robot performed better than ever. We were able to win most of
our rounds.
Overall, we were happy with the success we had, creating
the robot on our own, and watching it perform.
