Jesse participates in a Team Expedition to
the summit of Mount McKinley
June / July 1999.
Preparing meals is a
cooperative effort. We take
some time to discuss our
strategy for the next day.
Nearing the upper camp at
17,000 feet, we begin to see
beauty all around. Weather
has been mixed and we were
delayed by storms and high
winds for several days at a
time.
Above 17,000 feet we
struggle upward. In many
areas we are roped together
because of the danger of
avalanche. We have left
much of our gear behind and
now we are only carrying a
35 lb "summit pack". After
delays by the weather, we
make the final push to the
summit.
