Placement Student - Test Development
July 1997 - Present
During my stay at Schlumberger I was involved in the design, development, testing, and analysis of test and equipment control systems. My objectives for the year included fully documenting the in house test control program, consisting of a Visual Basic front end, coupled to a C program handling the communications with the hardware (i was considering putting the completed document, consisiting of data flow diagrams, entity relationship diagrams, function an module descriptions and screen shots on this site, but it totals to over 238 pages!). Other objectives included designing and building a functional test unit (pictures of which can be seen here!), and developing some modules in Visual Basic for the aforementioned test control program (these can also be seen here!). It must be noted that my objectives were completed within six months as planned, with the aid of an aggressive but achievable timescale. I have now moved on to other objectives, although they remain generic, in that i will be working on the Test Control Program, expanding its existing functionality.
Accurate Controls Ltd,, Poole, England
Placement Student - Web Site Development
April 1997 - July 1997
I carried out the design and implementation of a company web site as part of a twelve week university project. Involved the application of HTML, JAVA, several authoring tools and graphics packages as well as project management techniques and structured design processes. The project also involved research into company history, customer base and product design and application. Although if you visit, you will see there is not much of a page remaining - this is because the nature of the site changed after I left, as the company was originally going to place all its Installation & Maintenance guides and Specification Sheets on the site. Although i still have a copy of the original site designed by myself.

Some of my duties involved removing and replacing 415v three phase motors, carrying out balance and insulation tests, starter maintenance, transformer and lighting maintenance. Calibration of various instruments e.g. level/flow/pressure/temperature transmitters (pneumatic and electronic), current to pneumatic converter units. Removal and calibration of control valves. I also had to regularly attend college on a part time basis.
