Ok now *beep*

<Ramble Mode On>

I have finally obtained my MCSE (YESSSSSSSSS!!!!! WAHOO!!! YAYY!!!! ZIZBOOMBAH!!!!) *koff* a-hem. Now that I have gotten over it, I thought of putting up a page for would be MCSE's too. I don’t know what the future holds for Bill Gates, but I believe that for the moment, it might be prudent to learn their stuff.

It was not easy passing the papers, some of them I flunked more than once (eek!!) before I manage to squeek thru the passing mark. I did not have any formal training, (i.e. my ex-boss at my ex-company was too cheapskate to pay for it… ) so I just lived on Technet (which was my bible) and the online help file (yeah I know I know, it was so pathetic, but it was all I had.) and relied on my hands-on experience at work. Only lately did I look to the web for help, and I found it. Especially for my final TCP/IP paper.

Some people have asked about my background, what technical experience did I have.  I graduated from Coventry University in England in a general Computer Science degree.  I am currently only utilising about 10% of all knowledge I learnt at tertiary level. Only one I am using daily is the basic course in networking I took in my final year. After I came home, I started work as an SE, and have been in this line for the past 3 years. I did not go for any formal training at any ATEC centre, and like I said, my ex-company was not very keen on training and certifications, so I did em all myself, in my spare time, (and a little bit of company time too).

Instead of putting up notes here, I am just going to show the links to the absolutely fantastic pages of these generous people who have actually taken the time to write the notes and html them. Most people I know would rather not share, I mean, why help more people to become MCSE's and let them devalue you? If the supply of MCSE's in the world increased, their average annual salary will decrease proportionately.

Hats off to those below who have dedicated their page to helping their fellow engineers. One of these days I am going to compile my mountain of scribbled notes and post them here. For now, I will just reference those who already have written them. OK Thats about it for my ramble J

Tips on How to Prepare yourself :

I would like to give thanks to Chip Keefer who mentioned that invaluble help can be obtained from the online help file, which I totally agree.  If you are a cheapo like me who did not attend many of the ATEC trainings (which costs a bomb!!!) you can do what I do... install the product (server or whatever) then copy all the .hlp files that you can find, and then read them at your leisure. This is the cheap way to get at the core of the product, although you will be all screwey eyed by the time you are done. :) Anyway, thanx again Chip for your suggestion.

Actually, quite a few have emailed me and asked advice on how to pass the exams with as little money as possible. You people are just as cheapskate as I am hehe. Here they are, as simply as possible.  Get yourself :

  1. 1  Machine, install it with whatever OS you are getting tested on (e.g. Windows NT Server 4.0), play with it, crash it, reinstall it, configure it, and READ the online help files (check out the Exam Notes page for Win NT 4.0 help files).
  2. You Actually need to have a bit of experience and practical knowledge to answer some of the questions.
  3. Technet CD. Read technical notes, basics, this CD has almost everything you need to know.
  4. NOTE: Read the Resource Guide, it's invaluable!! (You can get the server version on the Exam Notes Page)
  5. Links to sites like mine.  Brain dumps are extremely useful as we are all helping one another to pass the exams. I don't condone swapping transcender exam papers because these people have to earn money too yanno.

For those of you who want to find sites that contain specific papers then click here ---> Links Sorted by MCSE Exam Papers.

Good MCP/MCSE Sites

Had to reorganize the links because of adding so many more links... wow, just look at the numbers of MCSE sites!

(Most of the good sites are Personal Homepages, because they are MCPs or MCSEs or going to be's. Only they know how to create pages that are specific for our purpose. Much better than so-called 'Official sites'. Well, that is my 2 sen worth anyway J)
