Veronica and Jughead
Nobody really knows
how many Gophers there are in the world. Suffice it
to say there are a great many, all of which have their
own series of menu items offering information and services.
Veronica is a tool
that keeps track of many Gopher menus from around the
world. You can use Veronica to perform a search and
look for all the menu items that contains certain keywords.
Jughead does the same thing for a specific group of
Gopher menus. The result of a Veronica or Jughead search
is a custom menu, containing whatever items were found.
Selecting from the custom menu will automatically connect
the user to the appropriate Gopher.

messages pertaining to a particular topic. The messages
can be articles, comments, or whatever is appropriate
to that topic.
You can subscribe
and unsubscribe to a list by sending a message to the
appropriate address. Many mailing lists are "moderated",
which means that someone decides which material will
be accepted. Other lists will accept and send out messages

MUD
A MUD, or 'Multiple
User Dimension', is a computer program that provides
a virtual reality. To participate in MUD, you need to
telnet to a MUD server, take on a role (character) and
explore. As you do, you interact with other users who
are playing their own roles. In other words, MUD allows
you to exercise your fantasies and pretend, just like
playing Dungeon and Dragons or visiting a magical realm.
Rest assured, MUDs
are at once complex, fascinating and addictive (Beware!).
As you walk around the virtual reality of a particular
MUD, you can talk with people, solve puzzles, explore
strange places (like caves) and even create some reality
of your own.

and more.
