Art Paleolithic refers to the Stone Age before agriculture or the use of metals. The period was marked by the use of bone or flint tools. During its later stage, cave paintings and sculpture were quite common. Paleolithic art, dated ten to 30 thousand years ago, was the beginning of art. Animal drawings were common in discovered cave paintings, especially horses, bison, oxen, mammoth and deer. The first Paleolithic cave discovered was in 1868 at Altamira in Spain, followed by Lascaux cave, found in 1940 by 4 teen agers in France. More recently, the French Cosquer and Chauvet cave sites were found in 1994 and 1995 respectively.
