intangible oddities

blue moon UPDATE: I do now have a journal. If you can guess my username, that'll lead you right to mine. It's not hard to guess, either. :)

I've never done an online journal. I don't know why I'm doing one now. Auspicious start, isn't it? Nevertheless, I've got some previous entries that used to masquerade as 'news'. There's also two journals that I read now and then because they're written by people whom I think are utterly fascinating: Hanne Blank and Heather Corinna. I recently learned of Wil Wheaton's site; does that count as a journal? I don't know, but it's pretty cool anyway. Check'em out.

11-28-01: I was going to cheat and point to the top of this page, because I created this page just today, so that should count, right? Um, right.

My son was diagnosed Monday with ADD. I'm still not happy with this, I can't lie about that. It feels like it's my fault, somehow, although it's not true (is it?). He's doesn't have the hyperactive form of it, he has friends, and he has no personality disorders, so it's pretty much mild ... but it's still ADD. It doesn't seem right. He's a normal little eight year old boy who loves Pokémon, Harry Potter and Legos as well as running around outside and making up games with fanciful rules. He loves the anime cartoons on Cartoon Network and can tell you, should you listen or ask, anything you like about the plots and characters surrounding a vast majority of the shows.

It feels like the odds keep trying to stack themselves against him. He was born with the cord wrapped around his neck, he's had ITP, he has to wear glasses, and now this. My heart breaks every time something new comes up, because none of it is his fault. There wasn't a thing that could've been done to prevent any of them. Why? *sigh*

On the plus side, however, he is very, very bright. He loves math and science, so I have no doubt that if he keeps this up during his academic career, he may end up in either field - may even become an engineer, who knows. There's plenty of fields out there for him to explore after high school. Just means we have to save now for his college.

Meanwhile, let's see if I can just finish redoing my site.
