Steve (Big M) Mirande

Dead End Street

In July of 1986 Steve nearly released his first and only record album, Dead End Street which yielded the hit single "The Chill Twill Blues" featured in the V&R Film That "Old Proud" Look (1985). This album was recorded and produced at V&R Studios, audio division, in New York City between April and June of 1986. Guest musicians on this album were The Camel Boy from Illinois and Troy, in addition to several members of Acid Rain. While this record did not sell at all (none were ordered, or shipped) on a grander scale this "release" gained almost instantaneous acceptance in the underground music scene. While no commercial copies of this elusive album are known to exist (they were all melted down and recycled as Menudo Records) a live performance of "Chill Twill Blues" by Steve remains as the focal-point of the V&R Video release, The First Telethon to Benefit the Boat People.

While it is rumored that there might be a few copies of this impossible to find record in existance, they are radio station promos, and sell for hundreds of dollars. A bootleg recording of this record also exists and rumor has it that an official V&R Records reissue is in the works. It is further whispered that the at one of the upcoming gatherings at Blissland several of the songs on Steve's lost album may be rerecorded.

The only existing recording , by Steve, that is still available (on cassette format) is: "Chill Twill Blues" b/w "That "Old Proud" Look" Interestingly enough the B Side of this single is taken from the unreleased soundtrack of the film of the same name, That "Old Proud" Look, which starred Steve, and until now has been completely unavailable. While music videos were shot for both songs, only "Chill Twill Blues" ever made it to the small screen, and this was on U68, a now defunct UHF all music video station that existed in New York City back in the early - mid eighties. While the video was only played once, dozens of inflammatory, and life threatening letters poured in to the television station after its being shown. Sadly, the video itself is "lost" as is its auditory counterpart.

The culmination of Steve's career was when Coca-Cola chose him as their spokesman for their new drink, Cherry Coke shortly after the first Telethon to Benefit the Boat People. Click here for an video excerpt from this commercial.
