WHIMSICAL POETRY

Checkmate
11/11/88

I'm sorry, I'll have to cancel our game today.
You know, the one where I'm the pawn,
and you, my king, for whom I'd give my very life,
and too my heart, push me around to suit
your every whim.

I never realized how little I meant to you.
Or that you would go as quickly as a feather in the breeze.
"A Queen awaits me" you laughed as you flew away.
I'm convinced no words could be colder than these.
You froze my heart.

Now here you are and I am so much colder.
"The time to play is gone," the Ice Queen states.
And though the move you made could be no bolder,
Still, you have lost, for I have called, "Checkmate."
