My father and mother are both born in 1943.
They both grew up on Fyn - "Denmarks Garden".When they
were 23 years old I arrived and boy did I make them happy - at least for a little while...
I was born in the danish capital Copenhagen on the 22nd May 1966 and lived my first 4
years there.
In 1971 my little-sister Lotte was born and the same year we moved
to Esbjerg, a small city in the western part of Denmark. We lived there for another 4
years and then in 1975 we moved to a small town Aars in the Northern part of Denmark and
half a year later my other little-sister Bitten arrived. I spent
the next 11 years in Aars going to school and college and when I
had grown up (ha ha) I moved back to Copenhagen where I got my
first job in computing in Maersk Data.
While working I studied on Copenhagen Business School and got a batchelors degree in
Foreign Trade in 1989.
In the winter 1990 I met a girl from a pentecostal church doing street evangelism. It
was quite cold, but she was still prepared to listen to all my objections to christianity
and in the end she gave me a copy of a biweekly christian magazine "The
Challenge" that would later play a significant role in my life.
In 1990 and 91 I seemed to bump into christians all over the place - it was as if God was
trying to chase me down. I got various material from different churches (and a few cults
as well ...), studied it and just grew more hungry for the truth.
Then one night in the beginning of 91 I found the copy of "The Challenge" in a
drawer and decided to subscribe to the magazine. I did so for a few months - it was quite
a convenient way to get to know about the charismatic believers and what they stood for -
without being in an environment where you would be pressurized into something you didn't
really believe in. Well in April 1991 I saw an advertisement for an evangelistic
arrangement with a director for a Volvo (a car) dealer. I thought "anyone being an MD
for a heavy, reliable car outlet like Volvo, would have to be reasonable and to screwed
up", so off I went to the arrangement.
Having arrived at the venue I wasn't really to keen on going in anyway, so I strolled
around in the neighbourhood pretending not to have anything to do with the church (another
pentecostal church that was later to become my spiritual home).
I saw a lot of people coming and going into the church and also the Volvo-director - but
still I didn't have the guts to go in. One of the shops nearby was an electrician selling
lamps, hoovers etc. I was glancing at his windows when suddenly my eyes fell on a little
note. It said "Have you found the light of your life". That was enough for me -
I didn't need more hints and in I went and that day I gave my life to Jesus.
Now I would like to say that my life has been ever so easy and blessed ever since that
day, but it hasn't. That's not really what you gain of getting right with God. What I have
got is a peace in my heart that God is with me and that I will spend eternity in Heaven
and not in Hell away from Him and His peace. That hope carries me through all the
hardships I have (when I do have them...)
A year or so after I joined the church I started attending one of the cell-groups. I pretty quickly established some very good
friendships there. We met either weekly or biweekly and for a period of time we met twice
a week in the morning and prayed together.
In 1996 I had a combined 30 years birthday and farewell party.
I hired an HT bus (through my friend Thorkil) and invited 30 good friends along to the
party. One of the guests was John - one of my very best friends.
There's a lot more to my story and a lot of pictures from the adventures of my life,
that I'd like to stuff into the pages, but that'll have to wait a few weeks. So come back
to get the second act.
