I bought this car in an eBay Auction in December of 2000 from a really nice guy in Brookshire, Texas. Brookshire is close to Katy, which is close to Houston. Here's what he originally said about the car:
Here we have a VW Karmann Ghia restoration project. The complete body has been dipped including, doors, front hood, and rear deck lid. It is an early model body (note ashtray) with an late model IRS chassis. Comes with most all parts for assembly except engine, including, all glass, lights, lenses, aftermarket shifter, gas tank, and alot of other various assorted parts. The IRS chassis is in perfect condition with out any rust! The body while stripped will need a small amount of body work as there is slight damage to the left front fender and all rusted areas (very few) have been cut out and replaced with fresh material. Now for the downfall, I do not have a title for it, however a lost title should be able to be filed for without a problem. So, with that being said I decided to go look at the car. I know it doesn't look like much, but for me, it's a diamond in the rough. I have a close friend that does paint and body work, so I thought it was great that it was already stripped since he would be painting it for me anyway. And the lack of an engine was fine too because I hope to put a Porsche engine in the car.
The boxes contain parts from the chassis car which as it turns out is a 1973 and also the parts from the donor body car. Here's my problem though: there is no VIN on the body that I can find, so it's going to be difficult to pin point an exact year. I was told about a plate in the front near the spare tire, but I looked and just found a rectangular hole where it used to be. I know it's in the 61-66 range, but beyond that, I'm lost. If you can tell me more, please email me at eschwenke@hotmail.com.
