DRESSING UP TO DANCE

places-icon.gif (492 bytes)How should I dress up for ballroom dancing in the Philippines?

WOMEN: In the hotels, wear a party dress, though a long gown is the norm in some hotels. In most other places, the casually chic clothes -- light weight dress, slacks and blouse, leggings -- are fine. Make sure they're comfortable and do not restrict your movements. Shoes should be suede- or leather-soled, preferably with a closed toe and back, though many dancers are comfortable with sandal-type heeled shoes.

MEN: Slacks and a short- or long-sleeved shirt would be great. Coats are required at most hotels though. Many outlets allow men to wear dark-colored muscle shirts which look great for the Latin dances. Sleeveless shirts are taboo everywhere. Shoes should be suede- or leather-soled.

A word on colognes: Please use cologne and perfume sparingly, and this applies to both guests and DIs. No one likes a partner's scent to overpower her own perfume, or stick to her hands.

Handy things to bring to the ballroom: a fan, facial tissues or small towel, baby powder, comb, and at least 2 changes of clothes and shoes.
