EXCERPTS FROM THE BOOK
"Secrets of Modern Ballroom Dancing"

sildancers.gif (3963 bytes)The book "Secrets of Modern Ballroom Dancing" was written by Vikky Bondoc-Cabrera and published by the Heritage Dance Center in October 1997 as a reference material for students enrolled in the Center's various dance programs. It includes not only rhythmic representations and illustrated dance patterns, but also discussions on the basics of dance, rules and techniques for couple dancing, history of the various dances, and suggestions for understanding ballroom dancing in the Philippine setting.

This first attempt at writing a dance book turned out to be too comprehensive for the needs of the beginner dancer. So I have decided to write a new shorter but nevertheless comprehensive version, and renamed it as VICTORIA'S DANCE SECRETS. This new book will soon be available for download from this site and later as in interactive CD format. The original book will be redesigned to act as a dance teacher's manual.

In "Victoria's Dance Secrets", we feature excerpts from the original book, especially those which deal with the various ballroom dances popular in the Philippines.

Beginning and amateur social dancers will probably find the Beginners Page a helpful start to learning dance. While the Center's principals are basically social dancers, we firmly believe that all social dancers should be given the opportunity to learn the fundamental principles and techniques of couple dancing. This, we believe, will enable us to see more social dancers who know what they're doing, not just copying showy steps and moves without understanding why and how they are actually done.
