Symbol or not, symbol or not... New Year's is not a big holiday for me. Normally, except for it's marking of the end of the holiday season, I don't look forward to it or worry about it.

That's partly because we have this big gear up for the whole end of the year thing, we have all these retrospectives, by the time we get to December 31st, I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to stay up until midnight. Except for last year, when I was staying up 'till then anyway, I have pretty much celebrated New Year's by sleeping through it.

We celebrated with Informer and Hawk this year. We wanted to get together with them again, since they are moving to North Dakota in a few weeks. We wanted to look over their house and furniture, too. Informer was sad, but she needs to go. That house has too many memories for her -- even the furniture is full of symbolic stuff. I rarely have bad problems with memories--most things just bring out sentiment, not fear or hate--but let's just say she has her reasons.

So, she's leaving Charlotte, house, and furniture behind, and heading for a completely different place. I wish her luck. I'm going to miss her, but I'm beginning to get used to friends leaving. At least she's more net.savvy than Moose and Squirrel, and we'll probably hear from her once in awhile. I'm debating leaving her this web page. She'll probably be angry with some of the things I've written, since I didn't ask permission. But then, it's a way to stay in contact. I don't know.

Hawk, gourmet chef that he is, made a wonderful roast (which I don't normally like) for dinner. Azura and I brought RoboRally, and we declared Hawk victor on the second flag. It was almost midnight by that time. We stayed at their place until the ball dropped, cracking obscene jokes, and generally embarrassing Informer. Then we left and headed home.

Today, we went shopping for my friends. Saturday is the yearly-get-together. I started them many years ago, and my friend Ozzymandias took them over when he got married and bought a house. At the time he was the only one with a house. Come to think of it, he still is. Of course, I could buy a double-wide, too, if I wanted.

Not to disparage his choice of house. His dream house is a worthwhile endeavor. He wants to live in the mountains, and live off the land. Down to generating his own electricity and everything. Personally, I could not do that. I'm too much of a city fella. But I do respect that dream

We didn't get too much shopping done--I only bought one gift. Then Azura and I went into Babbagges (always a dangerous proposition). We wanted a new RPG, but of course none were out. The sequels to Daggerfall, and Might and Magic are due out this year, but all that's there now is BattleSpire...which isn't really an RPG. So we got Ultima Online.

I'd really like to be able to write about that game here today, but I can't. We couldn't get on. We tried from 5:30p or so to about 10, when I played Might and Magic IV for a while. Azura tried again at 3:30a or so. Still no-go.

I'm a bit frustrated, but I'm not sure of the problem yet. Azura is going to call tech support tomorrow. I wish her luck.
