Barb Hampton

Barbara Jean Keehler Hampton, living quietly in a small town in southern Illinois just outside of nowhere, more commonly known as Barb. I am one of the moldie oldies and was there the night we got kicked off the other list because we couldn't behave and here the first night Ike walked into the coffeehouse, put his feet up on the table and started telling us about his day. I claim royal linage as Empress of Everything and am much more interested in the crowning than the ruling. Image, I have found, is everything. I sit in the corner to the right of the door with the rickety table that has a crack in it that has been varnished over, and I have the keys to the archive because the little white haired guy likes me best. I channel for the white haired crone that appears at appropriate times, and it has been rumored that I am one of the alter egos of Lani considering we are never on the list at the same time. I also perform as one of the Blues Sisters, and am still famous for my Crayon Serenade. Married the Davester shortly after the beginning of time, I believe it was 8/21/70, and have been with him ever since come hell or high water...both of which we have managed to survive. Mother of Shawn and Marcee, the world's cutest couple, and grandmother to Kaylin Renee, the world's smartest little girl. I write short stories, novels and poetry, and specialize in journalling and round robins. I read almost anything, though I prefer science fiction. Day job: Assistant Trust Officer at a financial institution known for having great success at surviving in the financial world and creating stress. Favorite places: Hunting Island, South Carolina, south beach, just inside the inlet at low tide when the dolphins are feeding, in the Fall; Clark's Camp, Vermillion Bay, Ontario, Canada, in July when the sun is hot and the flies are swarming and the muskie are hitting and I catch one as big as my leg; anyplace with clear water and no telephones. Favorite activites: writing, reading, e-mail, net surfing, eating chocolate, sex, staring into the sky on a starlit night, not necessarily in that order. Favorite cartoon characters: the pointy haired guy in Dilbert, Odie, and the mother in Baby Blues. Favorite color: purple. Favorite foods: anything that isn't broccoli, okra or liver.

I think that's enough...probably more than you wanted to know.

For those who may be new to the list, there's no place else like this on the Web. I know because I've looked. The connections you can make here will carry you through the good, the bad and the ugly, if you let them.

In Accordance With WolfPuppy directives, I'd like to try to update my profile too. So many things have changed. I have short hair now, facial scars, and I've lost twenty pounds. Besides that, I guess everything else is the same...

I, too, am an old-timer here (it's starting to sound like the Woodstock question) and vividly remember the hoisting that pushed us non-purists off to build this coffeeshop. My personal input was the treehouse...

I'm married to the wondermous Kerri and father to the wondermous TJ (eight goin' on twenty). I slave in the world of neutrons as a Shift Manager at the Advanced Test Reactor by day (and by night) and write by night (and by day) in hopes of someday not shifting or managering. I like horror stories of every sort, the kinda dark fiction that curdles my toenails and curls my blood. I read classics and poetry and some fantasy. I've written (and published a little) dark romance, dark fantasy, straight-up horror, and lottsa sucky poetry. Sucky poetry is a specialty of mine.

I like jalepenos on every food but chocolate cake, and Bud Light goes well with glazed donuts. I like the colors blue and purple, but not wrapped around my eye. I don't like orange, but I love oranges. Can't eat organ meats, peanut butter, or mayo. My music tastes are broad, as long as country/western gets nowhere near them.

I especially like alternative and classic rock. I'm almost always wearing Levi's or shorts, cop a short coiffure, and wear dangling loops from my left ear. I'm still tattoo shopping.
