Welcome to the life at Glenvale
Terrace.
2 Glenvale Terrace has been putting on dinners for friends
for the past number of years and 3 Glenvale joined us last year. We
thought we might let you in on some of those meals and share our favorite
recipes with you. On our 6 burner restaurant stove that I bought from
our friends Brian and Laney, we cook daily making interesting and
wonderful meals. The constant question though is,"what
shall we have for dinner tonight?"
and the next question is "who
is coming over for dinner?" Shopping is key here of course, fresh vegetables from Arax market in Watertown, meat from BJs in bulk to store in the freezer downstairs and fresh fish from Chinatown whenever we can get there to shop. Herbs we grow during the summer and dry for winter use though there is always a rosemary plant growing in the living room, spices fill some of the shelves in the kitchen and the right cookware is crucial. Various sauces from different countries line our refrigerator and basement shelves. Even with a well stocked kitchen there are many trips to the food store. The meal is of course joined with the right wine from the cellar that I have stocked over the years and continue looking for wonderful additions. For various wine suggestions and reviews go to the wine page. We pride ourselves on trying different things from time
to time and go from wonderful gourmet meals that are planned after
scouring cook books for suggestions to "what
is the easiest thing we can do tonight?"
and something quickly thrown together but even those quick
meals are delicious and worthy of reflection. March 2nd 2000 A few nights ago we celebrated our friend Quigleys
birthday, just the three of us, Greg and Chris had already left for
their trip to London though we knew they would be unhappy if they
knew what they were missing. The wine I brought up from the cellar and decided finally on a Panther Creek Pinot Noir, the 1992, a rich full body pinot, unfiltered, lots of fruit, an almost Burgundian style, myjestic with a long finish. It was the perfect compliment to the richness of the meal. We ended with ginger cake that Christina had made covered with lemon curd and a pot of my well known french roast coffee. The next day we had leftovers and both of us decided that this might have to become a staple in our menus. Stay tuned for other dinners.
