Who is it for? Web page style:

This website is designed for anyone who wishes to find information about the locale of someone. The site is given a formal style through the use of light, 'soft' colours for the background, sans serif fonts and clear, easy to understand graphics, hence managing to avoid alienating or offending any visitors. The site is limited to approximately 30kb per page, to keep download time to a minimum. The decision to choose speed over graphics/ detail was probably the right one, as it allows the site to be accessed by those with slower computers while still providing something aesthetically pleasing. Given that the intention of the site is to suit people of any age, race, religion etc, the aesthetics of the site suit the aim admirably. The web site's address itself, being the same as the name of the site, is easy to remember and furthers the impression that this is a "professional" site and not, for instance, a user's personal page. It is clear that the intention of the site is to give users the impression they have absolute control over the information they receive.

Quality as a Hypertext

The site is interactive. For a search to be performed, the user must provide some information. It is possible for the web master to be given feedback through the "contact us" link, and the advertising and links to other areas of interest all allow for much direct user interaction. In terms of stimulating thought, the combination of simple graphical metaphors and lack of information other than direct facts limits user engagement. Despite this, the web site provides a highly effective hypertext because a user must take control of the activities of the site in order the gather the desired information. Perhaps most usefully for the user is that as a hypertext, the White Pages can be updated more regularly than the print version, and therefore the user will know that the information they receive from a search is accurate at the time of viewing.
