Who and Why?

The White Pages Australia website was created by Telstra Australia, "solely for informational use." It is therefore provided as a service for users, a supplement to the text version of the White Pages, which allows a user to search for people with limited information, something clearly not possible with the regular White Pages. The site is suited to both personal and business use due to its comprehensive and efficient method of searching for information.

Features:

The "search engine" may be the primary reason the site was created, however, it was designed to serve a number of other functions as well. It provides links to other pages, such as the Yellow Pages Online or sites that offer road maps of areas. Advertising offers consumers products relevant to the site's information to buy. In effect, the entire site is designed to offer the user as complete an access to this form of information as possible within a few clicks from the main page. The graphic of a child holding a toy globe provides users with an easy metaphor, telling them that this website makes distances far smaller and easier to access, "the world at the user's fingertips." The advertising images are similarly simplistic, containing a basic shot of the product or company logo, conveying the intended message while keeping the professional appearance of the site intact.
