My Best Friend
Pamela and Billy, October, 1997
In late March '97, while I was wandering around chat rooms on MSN, I saw a room on the list called "Great White North - Come To Canada". Because I enjoy meeting people from around the world, I went to that room, and met some nice people, including a little bird named Sparrow. That chance encounter with this lovely lady led to a friendship that seems like it has always existed. I returned to that room, and we just seemed to be two of a kind, and before long we talked on a regular basis, hopping around rooms, meeting people, joking, and becoming very comfortable in that friendship. We talked about ourselves, and found striking similarities and symmetry in the paths of our lives. It wasn't long before our chat friends came to expect that when they saw one of us, the other was surely on the way as well. One day in October of that year, I met Pamela; this vivacious woman standing (well, sort of bouncing, actually) at the airport (in a place she wasn't supposed to be) with a great smile, and exclaiming "You're you! ..you really are!" And so was she.
To my Best Friend I say, thank you, Pamela, for being You, and for the loving support, the smiles, the laughter, and all of the sharing that has been, and that is yet to come.
God Bless you, Love.
It's two years now, since that day in the airport. In that time there have been ups, and downs, and there have been some of the most incredibly romantic times that two people could have together, I think. There are places that we've never visited before, that will always be special to us, and there have been times that have been so hard that we thought we might break. I know that this woman, Pamela, is everything, and more, that I could ever wish for, and she calls me "Beloved" . . . I like that. I think that I finally understand what 'Soulmate' means, and I treasure every day that we've had together, online, or hand in hand, and as much as I could wish I'd had all of my life with her, I will take what I've had, and whatever the future brings. And, by the way, she's still my Best Friend.
I love you, Pamela.
