Indian Ocean Sunset
We sailed through the Suez Canal in November '85, and into the Persian Gulf for a few weeks. After a few operations in that area, we went into the Indian Ocean, sailing south and crossing the Equator on our way to Diego Garcia. We were the first carrier to visit that base, and after leaving, we sailed further east through the Straits of Malacca, to Singapore. We had a port visit over Christmas there, more than half the world away from our families. Some of the sailors in the photo above are performing maintenance on a SH-3 Sea King helo, while a couple of others paused to watch the sunset.
Camera: Canon F1, 135mm lens, Ektachrome 64 film
