(August 20,
2000) NEW HYPE WILLIAMS PHOTOGRAPHS IN UPCOMING ISSUE OF
INTERVIEW
In the July 22, 2000 issue of Billboard
magazine, a short blurb stated that Hype Williams would be shooting a
photo-spread for the September 2000 issue of Interview magazine,
in which Wynonna Judd will be the only country artist in the
photo-spread which features women in music, including Missy Elliott,
Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez, and Macy Gray. The
September 2000 issue is now out on newsstands, but the "women in
music" photo-spread is nowhere to be found. Perhaps it has
been postponed for a future issue.
(August 13,
2000) NEW JAY Z & MYA REMIX VIDEOS PREMIERE
2 new Hype Williams-directed videos premiered this past week on BET.
The new Jay Z video Hey Papi (from the Nutty
Professor 2 soundtrack) and Best Of Me (remix) by Mya
feat. Jay Z. Hey Papi was shot on location in Mailbu
(not at the Playboy Mansion, as previously reported on MTV.com),
and described as a continuation of Jay Z's video Big Pimpin'.
Go to 360hiphop.com
for behind the scenes footage from the video shoot, which features
appearances by Amil & Memphis Bleek (who also appear on the track),
as well as special guests Pamela Anderson, Timbaland, and DJ Clue.

NEW HYPE WILLIAMS PHOTOGRAPHS IN NEW
ISSUE OF VIBE
Earlier this year in several interviews, Hype Williams mentioned that he
wanted to try his hand at photography. Well, his first photos have
finally been published in the new September 2000 "Seventh
Anniversary Juice Issue" of Vibe (w/Eminem & Dr. Dre on the
cover). He shot two black and white photographs of Aaliyah &
DMX which appear on page 137 and 140. Also, for a 5-page photo
spread entitled "Hot Girls" (page 224), Hype shot
photos of a group of sexy and successful "it" girls on the hip
hop scene, including Aaliyah, Quincy's daughter Kidada Jones, actress
Bijou Phillips, and model Natane. These pictures are definitely
worth looking at, so look out for the magazine, which should hit stores
in the next week. There is further coverage of Hype's work on page
244 in the same issue, with behind the scenes coverage of the Hype
Williams-shot video for the DMX/Sisqo video What These
Bitches Want.

MEMORABILIA FROM HYPE WILLIAMS VIDEOS AUCTIONED OFF AT MTV.COM
MTV.com is auctioning
off memorabilia from several Hype Williams-directed videos next week.
As part of Cool Crap, MTV is auctioning off memorabilia from its
MTV shows as well as stuff from the music videos, sports, and other
"cool crap". Among the items up on the auction block
are: an outfit worn by Busta Rhymes in the Fire
video and an outfit worn by LL Cool J in Imagine That.
Perhaps the most interesting item listed is the pink microphone from No
Doubt's Ex-Girlfriend video! The microphone does not
work, but it is illuminated from the inside by a lightbulb, and had been
painted bright pink for the video. Go to the Cool
Crap page for more info.

"BIG PIMPIN'" & "VIVRANT THING" NOMINATED FOR
2000 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS
The 2000 MTV Video Music Awards nominations were finally
announced yesterday morning, and Hype Williams-directed videos got two
nominations: Best Rap Video for Big Pimpin' by Jay
Z and Best Hip Hop Video for Vivrant Thing by
Q-Tip. I personally believe that Kelis's Caught Out There
(one of Hype's breakthrough videos this past year) and No Doubt's Ex-Girlfriend
were robbed of at least one nomination. The awards will be handed
out on September 7 in New York City, with Shawn & Marlon Wayans
hosting this year.
Full nominations list at the MTV.com
website.

HYPE WILLLIAMS BOOK DELAYED
It looks like the planned Hype Williams video stills book entitled Follow
The Leader has either been delayed or won't get published by Powerhouse
Books, as the book is no longer listed on the publisher's website
nor the Amazon.com
website, where it was previously available for advance order. The
book had been delayed from last fall to earlier this year, and delayed
again 'til this summer.

HYPE WILLIAMS SCHEDULED TO BE IN TORONTO FOR CARIBANA IN EARLY AUGUST
It was announced on Much
Music (Canada) hip hop show Da Mix last night that Hype
Williams is scheduled to be in Toronto over the August 5-6 weekend for
Toronto's annual Caribana cultural festival and parade. It
is also apparently Hype's birthday on that weekend, and a Hype Williams
birthday bash is scheduled to be held on August 5 at Embryus
nightclub (257 Adalaide Street). On August 6, there will be a
casting party at Society Nightclub (132 Peter Street). For
those interested in being in one of Hype's videos, or interested in
meeting Hype or Little X, will get an opportunity to do so at these two
events. For more information, you can call (416)410-2256 (number
as listed during the Da Mix show).

NEW BUSTA VIDEO DESCRIPTION
Keenon was able to catch the new video for Busta Rhymes's Fire
on a local video show on Friday night. Here is what he had to say
about it: "The concept of the video is adapted from the
movie Twister and Busta is trying to evade the tornado. The video
boasts guest appearnces by Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Korn's lead singer
(Jonathan Davis) and of course Busta's side kick, Spliff Star. I
can actually say that this video will probably be nominated for a couple
of music video awards throughout this year because the special effects
are off the wall. Hype did his thing on this one."
Everyone else can catch the making of Fire and the
premiere on MTV's Making
The Video tonight (Monday) at 10:30pm.

In previous years, the nominations for MTV's
annual Video Music Awards have been announced in the last 2 weeks

videos which should be eligible for this year's awards. Expect
nominations for his videos: She's A Bitch (Missy Elliott),
Vivrant Thing (Q-Tip), Still D.R.E. (Dr. Dre
feat. Snoop Dogg), Caught Out There (Kelis), Ex-Girlfriend
(No Doubt), and Big Pimpin' (Jay Z).
