So within the last 8 months, both Little X and Paul Hunter have left HSI Productions. Little X is currently signed to the DNA (David Naylor & Associates), which also reps some prolific music video directors such as BIG TV!, Francis Lawrence, Marc Webb, and Nigel Dick. DNA is also rep'ing Little X for his commercial work. In an interview with SOHH.com (September 10, 2007), its revealed that Little X has formed his own company, Sun God Collection, to house his work in video, film, and television.

Little X's music video & commercial pages on the DNA website have several streaming video clips, including ones of the new (?) commercials for McDonald's "Kiss", and Intel "Sean Kingston". As far as I know, Little X is still working on his first movie, the horror flick Razorwire. Little X also worked on a small independent Canadian movie last year. He was Second Unit Director and Director's Consultant for the Canadian urban film How She Move (which was distributed by MTV Films and released in theatres on January 15, 2008; the movie came out on DVD in April 2008).
I posted last month that Little X was scheduled to take part in the 2nd Annual CaribbeanTales Film Festival in Toronto. The event was held at the Workman Theatre in downtown Toronto on July 15. For about an hour, Little X was interviewed on stage by 680 News reporter Rudy Blair about everything from his youth, growing up in the suburbs of Toronto; to his experiences working at MuchMusic, interning with Hype Williams, and what his goals are for the future. His first ever video was the Chcolair/Jully Black video for What It Takes. Favorite (Canadian) video: Ol' Time Killin' (Kardinall Offishall); Favorite American Video: The Whisper Song (Ying Yang Twins). He grew up on watching cartoons like Robotech, Voltron, and Transformers. He learned to draw and sketch from looking through comic books as a kid. While he didn't specifically mention any projects by name, he did give the impression that there were some bigger profile projects in the works. When asked 'what movie would you love to make', he answered (without hesitation) Transformers (which had just come out in the theatres). :o)
During the interview with Rudy Blair at
the CaribbeanTales Film Festival (see above), Little X mentioned an
interesting side project that he had been involved with: designing a
line of clothing for Canadian fitnesswear company
IceGear.
The line is called X-Fit, and consists of comfortable and
stylish work out clothing adorned with patterns of dragons and other
graphics. The line of clothing was launched during Toronto
Fashion Week back in April 2007. There are currently only 4
IceGear locations in the Greater Toronto area and 1 in Australia; but
clothing can be purchased at the official
IceGear
website.
Nominations for the 2007 MTV Video
Music Awards were announced early last week, but sadly no Little
X-directed videos came away with any nominations. MTV decided to
restructure its annual awards show this year by getting rid of the
genre-specific categories (dance video, R&B video, rock video, etc.)
and several technical categories (ie: best cinematography, best art
direction, best special effects, etc.) and instead adding silly
non-relevant (in my opinion) categories like Most Earthshattering
Collaboration, Quadruple Threat of the Year, and Monster Single of the
Year (hey, what happened to the *video* in "Video Music Awards"?).
Even the Best Male & Female video categories were adjusted to Best
Male Artist and Best Female Artist. Less emphasis on the videos,
and more on the artists. I mean, MTV *does* still show videos,
don't they? :op
According to Little X's official website, he's directed a new TV
commercial campaign for the new-concept grocery store chain
Bloom.
The clips, entitled "Shop Happy", feature shoppers doing
groceries at the store while the store's employees do a song-and-dance
number around them. Three clips entitled 'Shop Happy with
Jan', 'Shop Happy with Beth', and 'Shop
Happy with Bill' are posted on their official website.
Little X has directed a video for the new
R. Kelly/Usher duet, Same Girl, which premiered
June 19 on BET. The premise of the video? R. Kelly & Usher go
back and forth about their respective current girlfriends, only to
realize that they're seeing the same girl. A sort of mini-movie
version of the Brandy/Monika "The Boy Is Mine", if you will (but with
a *twist* at the end)
The Little X-directed video for The
Game's Let's Ride premiered in late-October/early-November.
X also shot a new video for upcoming
Canadian rapper Belly, for his track Pressure
(featuring Ginuwine). Along with Ginuwine, other people
making cameos in the video include Hulk Hogan, Brooke Hogan, Mad Linx,
and DJ Drama. Although the article lists X as the sole director,
I believe he co-directed it with RT!, as it is credited to RT! at the
beginning of the video.

HSI Productions
re-launched its website with a new layout a few months ago.
The Little X Music Videos section includes full Quicktime video clips for the following music videos:
I had posted behind-the-scenes images from X's commercial shoot for the new XM Satellite Radio commercials in Toronto back in October. The two commercial clips, entitled "Neighbourhood" and "Radio" are now available in streaming format at X's official littlexonline.com website. Also posted are his recent commercials for Bacardi "Muddle It", the Smirnoff Raw Tea "Tea Partay", and a pair of commercials for Mercedes Benz.
Click here to read an article about Little X joining Sean "Diddy" Combs' fight against (apparel) anti-counterfeiting in Canada. The campaign is aimed at fighting those who are selling counterfeit versions of clothing lines such as his own Sean Jean brand.

CTV News
aired a feature story on Little X back on November 29 during their
11pm news broadcast. The feature, entitled "Success Story:
Tom Walters with Little X" is posted on the
CTV.ca website here
Here's a short video clip of highlights from the First Canadian Hip-Hop Summit On Financial Empowerment in Toronto: Get Your Money Right, which Little X took part of, in Toronto on October 28.
And finally: the 2006 Year-End-Review. While X has been keeping up with his video work, he's also getting a steady flow of commercial work. He's directed several commercial clips over the past year including a pair of spots for XM Radio, 2 for Mercedes Benz, and ones for Bacardi, Sony, and Verizon. Perhaps the most popular one was a commercial for Smirnoff Raw Ice Tea entitled "Tea Partay". The clip was released exclusively online, and became an instant (viral) hit through the video-sharing site YouTube. So what does 2007 have in store for Little X? Well, back in March 2006, it was announced that X was working on his first feature film, an urban horror movie called Razorwire. Several sources (including imdb.com) list it as coming out in 2007, so I'm sure he'll be busy with that all year; along with the usual video & commercial work. |
