MTV has asked the top
names in music video direction to contribute their creativity to this
year's Video Music Awards. As part of the MTV Directors'
Project. Each of the directors have teamed up with digital designers
to create dynamic introductions to this year's MTV VMA categories, which
is to be seen exclusively on MTV Online. Hype Williams has been selected
to come up with the intro for the Best Video of the Year
category.

Comedian Weird Al Yanovic, known for his parodies of top
40 songs, has released a new video entitled It's All About
The Pentiums, which parodies Puff Daddy's It's All
About The Benjamins. The video premiered on MTV's
Total Request Live yesterday and features cameos by
comedians Drew Carey and Emo Phillips. The video is also a
parody of hip hop music video cliches, especially Hype Williams'
Mo Money Mo Problems and Paul Hunter's It's All

The nominees for the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards were announced
yesterday morning and Hype Williams-directed videos received a total of
12 nominations. TLC's No Scrubs received a total of 6
nods, Busta Rhymes & Janet's What's It Gonna Be got 4
and Busta's other video Gimme Some Mo' & Nas/Puffy
collaboration Hate Me Now were each nominated for 1 award.
The 1999 MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live on MTV
on September 9, 1999 (9.9.99!) and will be hosted by Chris Rock.

single Vivrant Thing. The video is shot in black &
white and in widescreen. It began airing on BET

According to MTV.com,
Hype Williams directed the video for the remix of Ja Rule's Holla
Holla. The video was shot in Queens last weekend and features
guest rappers Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Memphis Bleek, Hot Totti, Black
Child, and Taj Murder. Last weekend, Hype also directed the new
video for Ja Rule and Memphis Bleek's Murda 4 Life.

Hype Williams is parodied in the new South Park: Bigger, Longer
& Uncut movie. The characters Terrance & Phillip
sing a song called "Uncle F***a" and a segment of it
has them in a "hip hop music video" setting similar to Mase's
Feel So Good video, including the shots of the big Las Vegas
neon casino signs and background dancers.

Chris Rock has been chosen to host the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards
in New York City on September 9. With the awards coming in a little over
two months, expect the nominees to be announced in the next few weeks.
Hype Williams has about 15 videos which are eligible for nomination this
year. Expect nominations for No Scrubs (TLC), Gimme
Some Mo' (Busta Rhymes), What's It Gonna Be (Busta
Rhymes/Janet), Holla Holla (Ja Rule), Hate Me Now
(Nas/Puff Daddy), & Half On A Baby (R. Kelly).

announced last Tuesday, and Hype Williams's video for What's It
Gonna Be (by Busta Rhymes feat. Janet) was nominated for Video
Of The Year. The awards will be handed out on August 18 and
broadcast on UPN on August 20.
